Our Story
ElkConstruct was born from frustration. James Mitchell spent over 15 years in commercial construction management, watching talented estimators waste countless hours wrestling with spreadsheets, outdated software, and disconnected workflows. He saw firsthand how these inefficiencies were costing contractors time, money, and ultimately the bids they deserved to win.
In 2023, James partnered with Elena Rodriguez, a former senior engineer at Google Cloud with deep expertise in AI and distributed systems. Together, they set out to build the platform they wished had existed throughout their careers — one that combines deep construction industry knowledge with cutting-edge AI capabilities.
Today, ElkConstruct serves thousands of contractors across the United States, from specialty subcontractors handling a handful of projects to large general contractors managing dozens of bids simultaneously. Our AI engine has analyzed millions of documents and generated over 50,000 estimates, saving our customers an average of 45% on their estimating time.

With over 20 years of experience in commercial construction management, James founded ElkConstruct after seeing firsthand how outdated estimating processes were costing contractors millions. Previously VP of Operations at Turner Construction, he brings deep industry knowledge and a passion for modernizing preconstruction workflows.
Elena Rodriguez
CTO
Elena leads our engineering team with expertise in AI/ML systems and distributed computing. A former senior engineer at Google Cloud, she architected the AI engine that powers ElkConstruct's document analysis and cost prediction capabilities. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford.
